Founded in 1903 as the Southern College of Pharmacy, Mercer’s College of Pharmacy quickly earned a national reputation for innovation in pharmaceutical education. In 1959, the College joined Mercer University, becoming a cornerstone of the University’s health sciences mission.

After relocating several times across Atlanta, the College moved in 1991 to its permanent home on Mercer’s Cecil B. Day Campus. This location placed the College alongside leading healthcare institutions, fostering collaboration, research, and clinical excellence.

In 1981, Mercer became the first pharmacy school in the Southeast—and the fifth in the nation—to offer the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) as its only professional degree. The College expanded its academic offerings in 1988 by launching Mercer’s first PhD program in pharmacology, pharmaceutics, toxicology, or medicinal chemistry. In 1993, it introduced a dual PharmD/PhD program with an emphasis on experimental pharmacotherapeutics for students pursuing academic and research careers.

Today, the Mercer University College of Pharmacy continues to lead in education, research, and service, preparing pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists to advance health outcomes locally and globally.
